ACT I
SCENE 1 Backdrop: sun setting Two empty swings on stage Voices speak off stage: JOY Emily, how long have we been friends? EMILY Hmmm, what's this? JOY I'm just thinking... so how long have we known each other? EMILY Decades. I met you in first grade. JOY Emily? EMILY Yes? JOY Remember the first day of school, how we met? EMILY Huh? JOY He was bullying me... He was calling me names, and I was crying. I've never met anyone like him. (A short pause.) I was crying like there's no tomorrow, and you came along. (Another pause.) I swear you had a halo on top of you. You came, and you, well you just told him to back off, and..... (Voice trails off, prepare for Act II) ACT II SCENE 1 Grade 1. Darkened stage: JOY on swing, and TOM beside her. TOM You have cooties, you ugly! (chants) Cooties, Ugly, Cooties, Ugly... JOY JOY stands up from swing Stop it. JOY sniffs and cries as TOM continues to bully. Go away. TOM Loser! Crybaby! Can't even take a joke, can you? Emily enters. EMILY EMILY shoves TOM away from JOY. Who's the loser? Don't pick on a girl, you loser! TOM Who are YOU? Are you standing up for this crybaby? EMILY I'm not standing up for anyone. I'm telling you to back off, Tom. JOY sniffs, looks up at TOM and EMILY arguing. TOM You wanna fight huh? You wanna? EMILY pulls up her sleeves, and prepares to accept the challenge when JOY stands up and pulls her back. JOY Stop. Don't fight with him. Please... please... EMILY stares sideway at JOY, pulls her arm away, and turns around. Wait... EMILY stops. TOM Crybaby need her Mommy? EMILY turns to face TOM and stares! At the sight of EMILY's rage, TOM runs off stage. EMILY walks slowly after TOM. JOY Wait... Umm, thanks. I'm Joy. You are.. (A pause.) EMILY Without turning: Emily. EMILY strolls off stage, while stage lights dims. SCENE 2 Grade 10. Lights on. Evidently some time later due to mode of dress. TOM pushes EMILY on the swing. JOY stands in a corner, observing the two. EMILY So why do you like me? TOM Erg, I knew girls will ask this. EMILY Are you regretting it? You can always leave. TOM No. I love you. Your hair, your eyes, your smile, your voice. Everything about you, Emily. EMILY I love you too... EMILY turns to face TOM and sees JOY in the corner. EMILY stands up. Joy! What are you doing here? JOY slowly comes forward, head down. EMILY looks to TOM. TOM Um, hi, Joy. Taking a walk in the park? JOY Erh, actually, I was just heading home. EMILY Oh, I'll come with you. I probably should head home too. Bye Tom, see ya tomorrow. EMILY kisses TOM on the cheek, and pulling JOY's hand, runs off stage. TOM This girl, Joy, she's an interesting chick, quite cute really. SCENE 3 Light dims and relights. University students. JOY and TOM each on the swing; JOY is reading a textbook, while TOM has a magazine. TOM TOM looks up from his magazine. Joy... JOY Without looking up, mumbles absentmindedly. What is it? TOM Let's go watch a movie. JOY Finally looks up with a patient smile. Tom, I told you. I need to study for this exam, and, don't forget, I still need to write your thesis by end of a this week. TOM Looks to the side (no eye contact with JOY) Just write it tonight. Come on, I'm bored. JOY stands, walks behind TOM, and hugs him. JOY Tomorrow, alright? Tomorrow we'll go. (IMTERMISSION) ACT III SCENE 1 Voices behind stage: JOY and EMILY JOY Emily... EMILY Joy, what's wrong? You're not acting like yourself today. And gosh, those old times are the past, history! Who cares! JOY ... Darkens, EMILY and JOY enter in the dark, sitting on the swing. Lights on. JOY picks up something and whack it at EMILY's head. EMILY faints. Who cares about the past? You're right. I don't care, but it's the present relationship between you two that bothers me. Light dims. Sound of phone ringing. JOY's voice heard in the dark. JOY Tom, remember that park where we first met? Do you mind coming here for a sec? It's urgent. SCENE 2 JOY is not on stage. EMILY tied naked to a pole of the swing. TOM enters. TOM Sees EMILY tied, runs towards her, exclaiming: Emily! What happened? Attempts to untie her, and didn't see JOY appearing behind him. JOY strikes TOM in the head. TOM faints. JOY tears TOM's clothes, drags him to near EMILY. With tears, hysterical laughters, JOY starts sewing the disgraceful couple's backs together. Light dims. SCENE 3 Lights on: the tied EMILY/TOM sits on a railway track, EMILY's leg tied with a metal chain to one side, TOM's leg tied with a chain to the other side. They wake. TOM wakes and tries to get up. EMILY OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! TOM What? Ugg, my back... EMILY Between sobs What happened? Who's there. TOM Emily? Emily, is that you? EMILY Yes. Tom? Why are we here... naked? TOM Fuck, it's Joy. She called me. She fucking called me out, and I saw you there! EMILY Why? You don't supposed she found out... TOM No way! That bitch's only good at working. She's a dumbass! EMILY Then how do you explain our situation!? Distant CHOOOOOO CHOOOOOOO sound. =] approaching train! What's that! TOM A pause. It sounds like a.... fuck, train! Both turn to see back of stage... TOM tries to get up, and EMILY screams. TOM falls back down since they're tied together. Come on! Bitch, get up! Damn it. EMILY!! EMILY Mumbles to herself. What should we do? Someone, save me. TOM Damn, get up, or I'll lose my life because of you. TOM tries to pull EMILY up behind him. They stand. TOM pulls EMILY towards his side of the track. Because of EMILY's leg chain, he fails. What the~ Fuck, Emily, COME! Stop standing there. EMILY Well, maybe you should take a look! My leg... OWW, STOP PULLING! TOM Fuck, you're not the only one whose leg is tied, ok? Now come before the train comes. EMILY Why don't you come!? TOM I told you! My leg is tied down. Train's CHOOOOOO gets increasingly closer and louder. The two panicks, and run in their own direction. The thread that tied them together breaks. TOM & EMILY YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Their back is bloody red as they kneel on their side of the track. TOM Fuck Bitch. What the fuck were you doing!? EMILY Damn it Tom. Ask yourself that! My damn back! There's probably going to be a scar! EMILY looks totally dejected. JOY's voice heard. JOY Lady and gentleman. How did you enjoy the show huh? It's time for the closing ritual. JOY appears with a bottle. Let me treat your poor wound, husband. Pours content (rubbing alcohol) over TOM and EMILY. EMILY and TOM scream in horror, pain and fright. JOY laughs! TOM Joy, stop this. You're crazy! Stop this nonsense! EMILY Joy, please. Owww. It hurts. Please. EMILY crawls over and hugs TOM. JOY's rage increases. She takes out a lighter, and lights a torch. JOY stands above the huddled figure with a flaming torch! No... This is ridiculous. Joy... TOM Pushes EMILY off, and stands up, prepare to fight for the torch. Joy... Now, give me that. It's dangerous... JOY Ok, here you go... With a smile, she throws the torch to TOM, who just screams in the fire! EMILY quickly caught on fire too because of the rubbing alcohol over the two of them. EMILY (dying words) What did we do to you Joy? What did we do to deserve this? TOM Bitch! You'll be sorry! Watch your step! Light dims. SCENE 4 JOY and TOM's home. A door. JOY walks to the door, takes out a key, and opens the door. Before she can walk in, an axe swing out of the doorway, and is planted directly down the middle of her forehead. JOY falls backward, her face up, eyes open, an axe on her forehead. Blood everywhere. THE END
